Warning. The recordings will take a long time to download if you have an indifferent link
to the Internet We believe that they are worth the wait..
The recordings below allow you to hear the difference between the QRP2000 and the ICOM725. We used the same antenna
for both receivers. We adjusted each receiver to the same settings as far as possible. We then took the output
of the QRP2000 to the left hand channel of a Soundblaster 16 sound card and the ICOM to the right hand channel.
Using the Cool Edit Pro sound package we made a stereo recording of the receiver outputs. Then we adjusted the
sound levels of each signal to match thus allowing a fair comparison. You will notice a slight 100Hz hum in the
output of the QRP2000 caused by the lack of screening in the prototype.
The best way to listen to these files is to use a wave file player such as the one in Windows 95. Use the balance control to select the RX you want to listen to:-
The first recording (925KB) is of a SSB QSO between an S9 signal and an S4 signal. The QRP2000 uses the standard 3Khz KK7B filter. The ICOM uses a 2.7 Khz filter.
The second recording (525KB) is of a S7 CW signal. The QRP2000 uses the KK7B 1000 Hz filter, the ICOM a 250 Hz filter
Lastly we have an S3 signal calling CQ (711KB).
We really like the sound of the QRP2000 and hope you do to.
